A Day 2 Pondicherry:

One of my BEST get away place for a weekend. It is just 3 hours drive from Chennai. I have been there a number of times, but this is the only time when I got to take some snaps. And it was a lovely trip too. I went with my family and they were too happy to see the place for the first time.
Best reason why anyone would love to drive to Pondy:
1) It is just 3hrs of drive from one of the most happening place(Chennai)
2) The roads are 'the best', without even a single pothole.
3) The entire stretch of the road you would find beaches.
4) We can halt at any place and enjoy the beauty.
5) Lots of natural scenic beauty through out.
6) Once a french ruled place, which still has that essence every place you go in Pondy.
7) Roads cut at right angle, which I like.
8) Alcohol is too cheap here, and you would find 70% of the people here high always. (I wish all places sold alcohol cheap)
9) Has a beautiful beach that has rocks on the shore and where you can sit and relax your evening.
10) Le cafe restaurant which is located on the beach adds more beauty to your evening.
Oh my god the list seems to be Never Ending.......

The first time I had been to this place was with my college friends and that was in bikes. We teamed up to around 8 bikes and drove to Pondicherry. I have no count now, how many times have I been there. You still ask me which is my best get away from Chennai, I would suggest this place. No matter with whom you go; family, friends or girlfriends, you would enjoy the best. There are lots of places to visit in Pondy. There are churches, botanical gardens, beaches, temples, Sunday markets, and Wine shops. To know more history about this place you can probably visit the Wikipedia.
I have had a lot of personal experience at this place. Everything was good and the best. People here are very helpful. You ask them for directions, they make sure that they spend enough time in explaining to you the best way to reach the destination. (The only other place where I have experienced this courtesy is Singapore.) You get to see a lot of foreigners here. The one other thing that I like about this place is that, the city is well cleaned and maintained. You would not find garbage littered around.
If you drive to Pondy by your own, the road from Chennai would lead you to a beach, which is called the Gandhi Beach. This is the place where you would see people whiling away their time on weekends. During weekends the entire stretch of the road will be closed for traffic and only pedestrians are allowed. This is just to give public a good evening walk, so that they don't get disturbed by the traffic. I have even seen police performing at these beaches during the weekends. They have their team of band, that entertains the public there with their music. The best part of this beach is that the entire shore of this beach is covered with large rocks. You can sit on the rocks and enjoy the waves splash at you. I have drive through allmost all the roads of Pondy and have found even them to be well maintained.
If your planning to get away with your friends at this place, you can get rooms starting from Rs500/- to Rs10,000/-. It depends on your budget purely. One particular resort that I like in Pondy is Hotel Kailash. It is around 10KM away from Pondy, but it is an isolated place, with a beach and it is pretty good. It is a health resort. So it is peacefull and sure you can get yourself relaxed after a stressful week. I liked the way they served the breakfast. It is very authentic and you would be greeted and helped by French girls. They show so much courtesy that you would feel really good to have started your day with that breakfast. There are lots of other beaches here. But be a bit careful, if you plan to go for beaches that are a bit remote, because that would be the place where you would find guys boosing away and you might be poarching their territory. Wine shops here are too good. You would find all brands of alcohols. Right from natu saraku to foregin saruku. So if it is a ssaraku party - I would suggest pondy; the best.
