College Trip To Goa:
"Paradise on Earth" - This is how every individual would refer to this place after visiting. I had a chance to explore the flora and fauna of this place when I was doing my third year college. And believe me, this is the best trip I ever had. To get our initial approval for the trip from our college authorities was no easy deal. We had to promise them that, we would not create any problem and the trip would be fine. Apart from this the college was not willing to fund us for the trip. So we had hard time getting approval from them. And finally the day came when we had to leave for our trip. The trip included Goa and Bangalore - 'The Garden City'. We boarded our train from Chennai Central Railway Station and left to Bangalore. From Bangalore we had to board another train to reach Goa. We had utmost fun on the train. We were roughly 150 students who were traveling to the same place. And it is a gift to have all friends travel together. You can imagine anything and everything that college guys would do. And the best part was, we had no girls in our trip - Only "Chronic Bachelors", this made the trip still interesting. After we boarded the train from Bangalore Station heading towards Goa, we heard a news that started to float around, saying that we had another college who was accompanying us to Goa on the same train. And guess what it was a girls college and there were roughly 50 girls who were traveling to Goa in the same train and their compartment was very next to ours. I know, a few lines back I said that, the trip was interesting because there were no girls in our trip - But have you heard this - "Matran Thodathu Maligai Mannkum". Exactly, so like any other college guys we were more interested in getting to know those girls. We had even guys going up to their compartments and 'sighting' the girls there. Believe me I was not a part of it . The next day morning we reached Goa station(VascoDa Gama) and I still remember the beauty of the Station . Early morning with dewdrops and a chill weather, anyone would fall for the beauty of nature. We reached the Resort that the travel agents have booked. I was stunned to see that even places in India had citizens who obeyed traffic rules strictly. When enquired, why they don’t overtake other vehicles even when the roads were free, the drivers said that their city was well monitored by cameras and that any violation in traffic would lead to serious trouble. Hope every city had strict rules on road - OK Jokes apart. We had to travel couple of hours to reach our resort. Finally we reached and it was a pretty good resort, that was way far away from the city. We were allotted rooms. The very first incident that happened when we entered the room was - we broke the cot by jumping on it. As any smart kid, we went to the reception and said that we wanted to change the room because they allotted a room with a broken cot. We were offered a new room and since we had tested the strength of the cot, we did not experiment anything new there. After refreshing ourselves we started off for sightseeing.

A very clean and tidy place to see. Lots of greenery and need roads, with not much pot holes. A land which was once governed by the Portuguese - still has its marks thrown allover the place. Churches are the highlight of this place. Every road would have a church in it and they are all centuries old. Many have become tourist spots and there are very few which are still very divine. We find a lot of street hawkers, because of the number of foreign tourists who fly to Goa very often. You can find citizens of all countries in Goa, flying into this land even during the off seasons. The other place of attraction was the beaches. The shores were so natural and there were places where there were boulders and trees.... A splendid place to see before dying. We had real good fun visiting the places in and around Goa. The most important highlight of this place was ALCOHOL. Being a union territory anything that you would buy here was cheap. Alcohol was way too cheap here.

Towards evening we were lead to a shopping area, where we were let to shop anything that we want. A few of my friends and me went along a few shops that were there in that area and found nothing good to purchase. Buy that time there were few others who had found out the shop where we could get alcohol. OK let me stop calling this alcohol and I will refer it to as DRINKS - this does not sound awkward. So we also joined them and we spent almost 70% of our money on buying the drinks. I had my friends even buy a few bottles for their families as well. What a family!!!!! The shopkeeper was very happy - I guess after a very long time he would have made a good deal... He packed all those bottles in a big box and we had to carry that on our head to take it to the bus. Everyone was excited about the drinks and we were all planning how to spend that night. Finally resort came and we got ourselves freshened up and started to booze. We had loads of fun - unforgettable events like, my friend who ate 1/2kg pickle for 6 rounds of drinks and another buddy who used western toilet in Indian style and many more... the whole night was full of laughter. It was past midnight when we started to get ourselves fully drunk and as any college students we raised a war against CSE Department of our college. They were allotted rooms on the second floor and every body from our department went up to pull a fight against them. There weren't much fighting, but we were yelling on top of our voices. This went on for nearly couple of hours and then we went to sleep. A unforgettable night of my life and I am sure even for my friends who were there with me that night.

Woke up the next day morning and we started off for the next days sight seeing. We went to many beaches, churches again, since that was all that we could see there. Hmm I remember seeing a fort there, which you would have seen in the famous film "Bombay". Food is one thing that is too tough to get. In order to drink a cup of tea you would have to walk miles. We had to starve for hours together before we could find a restaurant. The best part of restaurant is that, they have bar attached. So drinks on the goooo.... We are done with that days sight seeing and we returned back to the resort. There was a surprise waiting for us at the resort. One of my classmate was standing on the second floor and threatening us that he would jump from there. He was drunk and the reason that he had to jump from there was, a girl at the bar ditched him. Funny people funny world..... Then we had to run up to bring him down and take him to the rest room drench him in water, since he was tooooo drunk and did all grand ma remedies like giving him curd, lemon etc and still he was high. We had him soaked in water for half hour and then took him to bed and slept there. The next day morning he was fine and fresh and very normal. That is the magic of drinks....

We had to leave the resort the next day as per schedule and head to Bangalore. This journey from Goa station to Bangalore by train is also too splendid. The scenic beauty that you experience via travel is splendid. We get to see all the coasts and hills of Goa. The train even stops for a couple of minutes at a place where we would be able to see a waterfall. A True natural treat. I was all time standing by the doors of the compartment with my Kodak camera, trying to capture as many photos possible. The worst part was when I found that, the photos that I took risking my life, standing by the doors of the train were never captured on the film. Hmmm waste all stunts wasted. Finally we reached Bangalore the garden city for shopping and left Bangalore that same night.

The train journey back to Chennai from Bangalore was full war and blood.........

We boarded the train from Bangalore and we had our college girls accompany us as well on the same train. They were back from Mysore. After a couple of hours we heard loud screams and guys running between compartments. I was chatting away with my friends and we were having fun. There came a guy running from the other compartment saying that there was a fight between the two states(TN and AP). Yes our guys, have pulled up a fight with the AP guys. And the fight was for a girl. There were two boys who were falling for a girl and they both belonged to different states and this ended in regional fight. The TN boys have already cornered the AP guy and he was in great trouble. He was beaten up too badly that he started to bleed. There came our heroes - (The Professors) who did not know, that even they were targeted for that night. So even they were beaten up. What a tragedy. Well, then we had the TTR who had to interfere and solve the case by saying that he would stop the train and lodge a  police compliant against all those who were involved in it. It was a great scene to watch. Later he seperated all the compartments by closing the shutter. We had lots of fun that whole night talking about this.

We reached Chennai the next day morning to find our parents waiting to pick us up and we left home. The after affects of all this was later seen in college - dismissals, strikes and warning letters issued etc etc.

There ended our college trip to Goa. This trip calimed to be the most unforgetable event in our college history. This sensational topic went on for nearly a year. I loved this trip and enjoyed it to the most. I still beleive that our college would never have a batch again like ours, which created problems for all the good and the bad.
